LOCATIONS

Welcome to La Oveja Negra Eatery, a culinary gem nestled in the heart of Tacoma, Washington, specifically at 806 72nd St E. This eatery is more than just a place to grab a bite; it’s a celebration of authentic flavors, focusing on simple yet profoundly satisfying dishes, particularly lamb and barbacoa.

Upon stepping into La Oveja Negra, one is instantly enveloped in a warm, welcoming atmosphere, accentuated by the friendly service that makes you feel like part of the family. The eatery operates with a unique business model featuring a limited menu, allowing the kitchen to focus on perfecting each dish. Here, the star of the show is undoubtedly the barbacoa, hailed by regulars as “the best maybe anywhere.” Complimented by a rich, flavorful consomé, it's a dish that has left many visitors, like j0zer1, simply blown away. The authentic taste is spicy yet balanced, thanks to the house-made habanero salsa, which doesn’t hold back on flavor.

For those looking for variety, La Oveja Negra also excels in simple lamb items, particularly their soup and street tacos, which are celebrated for their sumptuous broth and tender meat. Nancy Abernethy speaks highly of the uncomplicated menu, which allows the eatery to shine through the quality of its few offerings. Saturday and Sunday visits are a must for the freshest barbacoa, with Andrea Delacruz sharing that it’s their go-to place for fulfilling barbacoa cravings.

While the menu may be concise, the flavors are anything but bland. Their tamales oaxaqueños are sizable and bursting with meat, providing a satisfying experience at a reasonable price, as noted by Toni AVI. The warm, inviting atmosphere is matched by a palpable sense of community and familial ties, making each visit feel like a cherished gathering. Repeat visitors describe La Oveja Negra as a place where you can savor the essence of authentic Hispanic food while feeling like you’re dining at your grandmother's home.

Additionally, the eatery promotes a vibrant atmosphere with a fruit vendor outside on Sundays, offering a sweet selection of fresh Mexican goods. As Britt Vargas puts it, every element—from the aguas frescas to enchiladas and flautas—is homemade, ensuring that each dining experience is delightful and fresh.

In summary, if you are in Tacoma and craving authentic, homemade Mexican fare, make your way to La Oveja Negra Eatery. With its solid reputation for quality dishes and a homely vibe, it’s a culinary experience that you won’t want to miss.

Best consome in Tacoma and best barbacoa maybe anywhere. I was blown away by the quality, very authentic. That also means the habanero salsa is not playing games.

No menu, just simple lamb items. Try the soup, the broth is so good. Street tacos were so yummy!

We get barbacoa all the time from here! Saturdays and Sundays is when they sell it, freeesh! Definitely one of the best places around the area. Kind of pricey, but the meat is always good

Their barbacoa and consomme are delicious, their salsa is amazing, and this is the only spot in this part of Tacoma where you can get a breakfast burrito during breakfast hours (try their chorizo!) Very friendly family. Highly recommended!

Big place, the food is amazing. Not much on the menu. But the sheep tacos are delicious with consome. Good for a hangover.

Best hispanic food I've had in WA so far. Been here for 7 years and nothing I've had ever got rid of the craving. Staff are great and I felt like their grandchild visiting grandma's for lunch. We'll be back for sure!

So delicious, everything fresh and homemade, from the aguas frescas to the barbacoa! Enchiladas, soups, flautas, nachos, everything has been so good, every time! They do beef barbacoa, which is best when you get it with the consomme, which comes with garbanzos y arroz (chickpeas & rice!) There's also a fruit vendor outside on Sundays, with a sweet little selection of Mexican goods at the peak of ripeness. Support small! And do yourself a favor, check 'em out!
